Founded in 1990 in Torino, Italy, during the 5th International Toy Library Conference, ITLA is registered under Belgian law as a non-profit international organization. We welcome associations and individuals who share our vision and commitment to the value of play.

The Story Behind ITLA
With over three decades of experience, ITLA has been at the forefront of promoting play through toy libraries. Our commitment to fostering creativity and community engagement has led us to become a leader in the global toy library movement.
At the International Toy Library Association (ITLA), we believe that play, playthings, and playful interactions are fundamental to optimal educational, physical, psychological, social, and cultural development and well-being.
Our Aims
ITLA strives to:
- Promote Toy Libraries: Share the concept of toy libraries as a vital resource for bringing play and play materials to people of all ages and communities.
- Foster International Collaboration: Serve as a global link between national toy library organizations, encouraging the exchange of ideas, materials, and best practices.
- Engage with Broader Issues: Partner with organizations addressing developmental, social, health, and educational issues, emphasizing the essential role of play.
- Encourage Innovative Toys and Games: Advocate for the creation, production, and use of toys and games that nurture holistic growth and share knowledge about these resources.
- Host Global Events: Organize international events and conferences that explore and celebrate the diverse aspects of play, playthings, and playful interactions.
